The German-American Cultural Center and Museum in Gretna interprets the contributions that people of Germanic descent have made to the Lower Mississippi River Delta and the unique cultural mix that is New Orleans. The Cultural Center is located at 519 Huey P. Long Avenue in the heart of Gretna’s National Register Historic District, which was settled by Germans in the mid-1800s.
Admission is free to the Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday. It is supported and operated through memberships in the Friends of the German-American Cultural Center (GACC) and other fundraising activities.
Members attend a monthly dinner meeting and also volunteer as the Center sponsors celebrations with German food and music for Maifest in the spring and Oktoberfest in the fall.
